Phil Anderson is a Professor of Physics in the School of Theoretical and Applied Science at Ramapo College of NJ. He is Convener of the Engineering Physics major, and he teaches introductory and advanced physics, analog and digital electronics, and invention.
He is an independent inventor, and has 20 years of experience with invention and product development. In addition to publications, he has 30 U. S. patents, and more than 100 foreign patents in amorphous metals, sensors, medical, automotive, and security devices. He serves on the Board of Directors of Carpenter Technology.
Prior to coming to Ramapo College, he was founding President and CEO of Identitech Corporation, the manufacturer of an advanced acoustomagnetic electronic article surveillance (EAS)system that he invented. He was a New Venture Manager and a Senior Research Physicist with Allied Signal Corporation, now Honeywell. He was a Systems Engineer with Electronic Data Systems, and a U.S. Air Force pilot.
He has a Ph.D. and MS in Physics and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University, and a B.S. in Physics from Widener University. He is a member of the American Physical Society, Sigma Xi, and a recipient of Ramapo College's Fred and Florence Thomases Faculty Award. He was selected as Inventor of the Year for 2001 by the New Jersey Inventor's Hall of Fame.
